- Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah reported to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, ‘Ata’ narrated to me, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: “The companions of Paradise on that day are better as a place of settlement and better as a place of rest,” he said: Allah will finish the accounting of the people by midday, so the people of Paradise will take their midday rest in Paradise, and the people of the Fire in the Fire. Then Allah will say on that day: “The companions of Paradise on that day are better as a place of settlement and better as a place of rest.”
- My father narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Sulayman reported to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Maysarah reported to us, a man whom he named reported to us, saying: ‘Ikrimah said: I surely know the hour in which the people of Paradise will enter Paradise and the people of the Fire will enter the Fire; it is the time that occurs in this world during the height of the late morning (duha), when people return to their families for the midday rest. The people of the Fire will be turned towards the Fire, and as for the people of Paradise, they will be led to Paradise, so their midday rest will be in Paradise, and they will be fed the liver of a whale, which will satisfy them all. That is the meaning of His saying: “The companions of Paradise on that day are better as a place of settlement and better as a place of rest.”
- Muhammad ibn Sa‘d al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, saying: My father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, regarding His saying: “The companions of Paradise on that day are better as a place of settlement and better as a place of rest,” they said: They are in the chambers of Paradise. Their accounting was that they were presented to their Lord a single presentation, and that is the easy account; it is like His saying: “Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will be judged with an easy account, and he will return to his people in happiness.”
- Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid reported to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ reported to us, Sa‘id reported to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: “The companions of Paradise on that day are better as a place of settlement and better as a place of rest,” meaning a better dwelling and abode.
- Qatadah said: Safwan ibn Muhriz narrated that he said: On the Day of Resurrection, two men will be brought, one of whom was a king in this world, of ruddy and fair complexion. He will be brought to account, and he is a servant who did no good, so he will be commanded to the Fire. The other will be a man who possessed only a cloak in this world. He will be brought to account and will say: “O Lord, You gave me nothing for which You should hold me to account.” He will say: “My servant has spoken the truth; release him.” So he will be commanded to Paradise. Then they will be left for as long as Allah wills. Then the companion of the Fire will be called, and he will be like a black coal. It will be said to him: “How did you find it?” He will say: “An evil place of rest.” It will be said to him: “Return.” Then the companion of Paradise will be called, and he will be like the moon on the night of the full moon. It will be said to him: “How did you find it?” He will say: “My Lord, a better place of rest.” It will be said to him: “Return.”
