His saying, the Almighty: "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings."
15283 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih reported to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd Allah al-Fazari reported to us, from Shayban al-Nahwi, Qatadah informed me, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: When "And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a bringer of good tidings" was revealed, he had already commanded 'Ali and Mu'adh to travel to Yemen. He said: "Depart, and bring good tidings and do not drive [people] away, and make things easy and do not make them difficult, for it has been revealed to me: 'O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings.'"
His saying, the Almighty: "except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner"
15284 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Salih reported to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah al-Fazari reported to us, from Shayban al-Nahwi, Qatadah informed me, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "a bringer of good tidings" - he said: He gives glad tidings of Paradise. "And a warner" - he said: And a warner from the Fire. It was also narrated from Qatadah similar to that.
His saying, the Almighty: "Say, 'I do not ask you for this any payment'"
15285 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith reported to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Say, 'I do not ask you for this any payment'" - he said: Say to them, O Muhammad, I do not ask you for any payment for what I invite you to.
15286 - It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed us, Sa'id ibn Abi Ayyub informed me, from 'Ata' ibn Dinar regarding the saying of Allah: "Say, 'I do not ask you for this any payment'" - he says: I do not ask you for any payment for that which I have brought to you.
15287 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj informed us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd saying regarding the saying of Allah: "Say, 'I do not ask you for this any payment'" - he says: I do not ask you for any payment for the Qur'an.
His saying, the Almighty: "any payment"
15288 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab reported to us, Bishr informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "any payment" - he says: Any compensation from the gains of this world.
