Then he said: "Do you know what day that is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said: "That is the day when Allah says: 'O Adam, rise and send forth the contingent for the Fire.' He will ask: 'O Lord, from how many?' He will say: 'From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine to the Fire, and one to Paradise.' This weighed heavily upon the people, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I surely hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise." Then he said: "Act and rejoice, for you are between two nations that have never been with anyone without increasing their number: Gog and Magog. You are among the nations only like a mole on the side of a camel, or like a mark on the forelimb of a beast. Indeed, my nation is but one part out of a thousand parts."
13770 - From Abu Sa'id al-Khudri who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah will say on the Day of Resurrection: 'O Adam, send forth the contingent for the Fire.' He will ask: 'O Lord, what is the contingent for the Fire?' He will say: 'From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine.' At that moment, the youth will grow grey-headed, every pregnant woman will cast her burden, and you will see the people appearing intoxicated while they are not intoxicated, but the punishment of Allah is severe." He said: "This weighed heavily upon the people, so they said: 'O Messenger of Allah, out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine! Then only one remains! So which one of us is that one?' He said: 'A thousand from Gog and Magog, and one from you. Are you not among the nations except like a black hair on a white bull, or a white hair on a black bull?'"
13771 - From 'Alqamah regarding His saying: "Indeed, the convulsion of the Hour is a terrible thing," he said: "The convulsion is before the Hour."
Ibn Jarir and Ibn al-Mundhir recorded from al-Sha'bi that he read: "O mankind, fear your Lord" up to His saying: "...but the punishment of Allah is severe," and said: "This is among the signs of the Hour in the world."
His saying, the Almighty: "[On] the day you see it, it will distract..."
13773 - From Sufyan regarding His saying: "[On] the day you see it, it will distract," he said: "It will make you neglectful."
His saying, the Almighty: "And you see the people..."
13774 - From Abu Nahik, who read: "And you see the people" [wa-tara al-nasa]—meaning you think the people [are intoxicated]. He said: "If it were [meant to be] accusative [of state], they would be intoxicated, but it is [a verb of perception], meaning you think."
