"The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist." He said: "This does not refer to marriage; rather, it is sexual intercourse. No one commits adultery with her except an adulterer or a polytheist." It was reported from al-Dahhak, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, and 'Ikrimah similarly.
14122 - Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Musaddad narrated to us, Khalid narrated to us, Habib ibn Abi 'Amrah narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding the saying of Allah (the Almighty and Majestic): "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress," he said: "Marriage here is sexual intercourse. Whatever of it is lawful is lawful, and whatever of it is unlawful is unlawful."
14123 - Hammad ibn al-Hasan ibn 'Anbasah narrated to us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Qays narrated to us, from Abu Husayn, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress," meaning: He does not commit adultery except with an adulteress or a polytheist.
14124 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist," he said: "The adulterer among the people of the Qibla (Muslims) does not commit adultery except with an adulteress like himself from the people of the Qibla."
14125 - Usayd ibn 'Asim narrated to us, al-Mu'ammal narrated to us, from Sufyan, Hammad narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist," he said: "It is not lawful marriage, but rather it is illicit sexual relations (sifah)."
14126 - Harun ibn Ishaq narrated to us, 'Abdah narrated to us, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from 'Asim ibn al-Mundhir, who said: I asked 'Urwah about His saying: "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist," he said: "They were women who were prostitutes in the Pre-Islamic period (Jahiliyyah) who had banners by which they were known."
14127 - al-Mundhir ibn Shadhan narrated to us, Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, 'Abd al-Malik ibn Abi Sulayman narrated to us, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Bazzah, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "The adulterer does not marry except an adulteress or a polytheist, and the adulteress does not marry anyone except an adulterer or a polytheist; and that has been made unlawful for the believers." He said: "There were women in the Jahiliyyah who were prostitutes, among whom was a woman called Umm Mahzul who was beautiful. A man from the Muslims would marry one of them so that she would provide for him from her earnings. So, Allah forbade that any of the Muslims should marry them."
