His saying: "Why do you not seek the forgiveness of Allah?"

16456 - Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, al-Qasim ibn Khalifah narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Muhammad, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, regarding "Why do you not seek the forgiveness of Allah?" He said: "Why do you not ask Allah for forgiveness?"

His saying, the Exalted: "That you might receive mercy."

16457 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bukayr narrated to me, 'Abd Allah ibn Lahi'ah narrated to me, 'Ata' ibn Dinar narrated to me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "That you might receive mercy," [meaning]: So that you may be shown mercy and not be punished.

His saying, the Exalted: "They said: We consider you an evil omen, and those who are with you."

16458 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "We consider you an evil omen, and those who are with you," they said: Whatever evil has befallen us is only from you and from those who are with you.

16459 - My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding his saying: "They consider an evil omen" (yattayaru), he said: They consider it an ill-omen (yatasha'amu).

His saying, the Exalted: "He said: Your evil omen is with Allah."

16460 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding his saying: "Your evil omen is with Allah," [meaning]: Your calamities are with Allah.

16461 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah: "Your evil omen," meaning: Your deeds are with Allah.

16462 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tahrani informed us, in what he wrote to me, 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "Your evil omen is with Allah," meaning: The knowledge of your deeds is with Allah.

His saying, the Exalted: "Rather, you are a people being tested."

16463 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "Rather, you are a people being tested," meaning: You are being tried with the obedience of Allah and His disobedience.
