His saying, the Exalted: "Who cause corruption in the land and do not reform."
16469 - Abu Abd Allah al-Tehrani informed us in what he wrote to me, Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Yahya ibn Rabi'ah al-San'ani informed us, who said: I heard 'Ata' regarding "And there were in the city nine men who cause corruption in the land and do not reform," say: They used to clip the dirhams.
16470 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, Malik informed me, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, that he heard Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib say: Gold and silver [currency] are of the corruption on the earth.
16471 - My father narrated to us, Shihab ibn 'Abbad narrated to us, 'Attaf narrated to us, from Ibn Harmalah or Abu Harmalah, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib, who said: The cutting of dinars and dirhams—meaning the weight-standard coins which the Muslims permitted among themselves and recognized—is of the corruption.
His saying, the Exalted: "They said."
16472 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "They said," he said: Nine from the people of Salih.
His saying, the Exalted: "They swore by Allah."
16473 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding his saying: "They swore by Allah" [taqasamû bi-Allâh]: They made an oath upon his destruction, yet they did not prevail over him before they and their people were all destroyed.
His saying, the Exalted: "We shall certainly attack him and his family by night."
16474 - Abu Abd Allah al-Tehrani informed us in what he wrote to me, Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "They swore by Allah": That they would attack Salih by night and then slay him, and then we shall say to his guardian: We did not witness the destruction of his family, and we are indeed truthful.
16475 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding his saying: "They swore by Allah that we shall certainly attack him and his family by night," he said: They agreed to take him at night and kill him. It was mentioned to us that while they were hastening toward Salih to slay him, Allah sent a rock upon them and crushed them.
