His saying, the Exalted: "So these are their houses, desolate."

16482 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab ibn al-Harith narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah informed us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding the saying of Allah: "So these are their houses," he said: So these are their dwellings.

His saying, the Exalted: "Desolate."

16483 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Khalid narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak: "Desolate"—he said: Its desolation is its ruin.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, in that is a sign for a people who know."

16484 - Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to me, from Simak, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Indeed, in that is a sign," he said: A lesson.

His saying, the Exalted: "And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allah."

16485 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed me in what he wrote to me, Asbagh informed me, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding the saying of Allah: "And We saved those who believed and used to fear Allah." They said: Salih claimed that he would be finished with us within three [days], so we will be finished with him and his family before three [days]. There was a place of worship for him in al-Hijr, in a mountain pass, where he would pray. So they went out to a cave and said: When he comes to pray, we will kill him, then we will return once we are finished with him, to his family, so we will finish them off. Then he recited the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "They swore by Allah, 'We will surely attack him and his family by night, then we will say to his guardian,'" to the end of the verse. He said: Then Allah sent rocks from the high mountain towards them, and they feared that they would crush them, so they rushed to the cave. The rock [that blocked the cave] fell upon them in that cave, and their people did not know where they were, nor did they know what had been done to their people. Thus, Allah punished those [who were in the cave] here...
