16880 - My father narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abi Nu'aym al-Wasiti narrated to us: Abban ibn Yazid al-'Attar narrated to us: Abu 'Imran al-Jawni narrated to us, from Nawf al-Bikali: That when Moses was called from the edge of the blessed valley, he said: "And who are You that calls?" He said: "I am your Lord the Most High."
His saying, Exalted is He: "From the tree, 'O Moses, indeed I am Allah, Lord of the worlds.'"
16881 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: When Moses heard the call, he was startled and said: "Glory be to Allah, Lord of the worlds." He was called: "O Moses, indeed I am Allah, Lord of the worlds."
16882 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us: Harun al-Jammal and al-Qasim ibn 'Isa narrated to us, both saying: 'Ali ibn 'Asim narrated to us, from al-Fadl ibn 'Isa al-Raqashi, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, from Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Indeed, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, only spoke to Moses (peace be upon him) on the day of the Mount; He spoke to him with speech different from His first speech. Moses was startled by that and said: 'O Lord, is this Your speech with which You spoke to me?' He said: 'No, O Moses; I spoke to you with the strength of ten thousand tongues, and I possess the strength of all tongues, and I am stronger than that.' When he returned to the Children of Israel, they said to him: 'O Moses, describe to us the speech of the Most Merciful.' He said: 'Glory be to Allah, I cannot.' They said: 'Then give an analogy.' He said: 'Have you not seen the sounds of the thunderbolts that come in the sweetest way you have ever heard? It is close to that, yet it is not that, nor is it of that.' Harun added: He said: 'When Allah spoke to Moses, He spoke to him with gentle speech, but when He spoke to him on the day of the Mount, He spoke to him with speech other than that speech,' and the rest is similar."
16883 - My father narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Bakkar ibn al-Rumman al-Righami narrated to us: Abu Ma'shar narrated to us, from Ibn al-Huwayrith, who said: Allah only spoke to Moses with speech that Moses could endure from His speech; and if He had spoken with all of His speech, he would not have been able to endure it. So Moses remained for forty nights; no one saw Him but that they died from the light of the Lord of the worlds.
16884 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi reported to us in what he wrote to me: Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd narrated to us, regarding the saying of Allah: "or a burning brand from the fire," he said: The jadhwah is a piece of firewood that has fire in it; that is the jadhwah.
His saying, Exalted is He: "that you may warm yourselves."
16885 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us: 'Amr ibn Hammad narrated to us: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi, regarding: "that you may warm yourselves," he said: From the cold.
