His saying, Exalted is He: "And you were not by the western side."
16931 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [who was] informed by al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid: Yazid narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And you were not by the western side," he says: You were not by the western side of the land when We decreed the command to Moses, and you were not among the witnesses.
16932 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tahrani informed me in what he wrote to me, [who was] informed by 'Abd al-Razzaq: Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "by the western side," he said: He means there was a mountain nearby.
His saying, Exalted is He: "But We brought forth."
16933 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman ibn al-Ash'ath narrated to us: al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us: 'Amir narrated to us: Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi: "We brought forth" means We created.
His saying, Exalted is He: "Generations, and long periods passed over them."

16934 - Muhammad ibn 'Awf al-Humsi narrated to us: Salamah ibn Jawwas narrated to us: Muhammad ibn al-Qasim al-Ta'i narrated to us that 'Abd Allah ibn Busr said: I said: O Messenger of Allah, how long is the generation (qarn)? He said: One hundred years.

16935 - My father narrated to us: Adam ibn Abi Iyas narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Abu Muhammad, from Zurarah ibn Awfa, he said: The generation is one hundred and twenty years.
16937 - My father narrated to us: Abu al-Jamahir Muhammad ibn 'Uthman narrated to us: Sa'id ibn Bashir narrated to us, from Qatadah, he said: The generation is seventy years.
16938 - My father narrated to us: Abu Bishr Isma'il ibn Maslamah ibn Qa'nab narrated to us: Abu 'Ubaydah al-Naji narrated to us, from al-Hasan, he said: The generation is sixty years.
16940 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us: Hafs narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj, from al-Hakam, from Ibrahim, he said: The generation is forty years.
16941 - My father narrated to us: Muslim ibn Ibrahim narrated to us: Muhammad ibn 'Uqbah al-Rifa'i narrated to us: Malik ibn Dinar narrated to us, he said: I asked al-Hasan about the generation, and he said: Twenty years.

١٦٩٣١ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَنْبَأَ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، ثنا يَزِيدُ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلَهُ: وَمَا كُنْتَ بِجَانِبٍ الْغَرْبِيِّ يَقُولُ: مَا كُنْتَ بِجَانِبِ غَرْبِيِّ الْبَلَدِ إِذْ قَضَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى الأَمْرَ وَمَا كُنْتَ مِنَ الشَّاهِدِينَ
١٦٩٣٢ - أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الطِّهْرَانِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَنْبَأَ مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: بِجَانِبِ الْغَرْبِيِّ قَالَ: يَعْنِي جَبَلا قَرِيبًا كَانَ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَلَكِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَا
١٦٩٣٣ - حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ الأَشْعَثَ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَامِرٌ، ثنا أَسْبَاطٌ، عَنِ السُّدِّيِّ أَنْشَأْنَا خَلَقْنَا.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: قُرُونًا فَتَطَاوَلَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعُمُرُ

١٦٩٣٤ - حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَوْفٍ الْحِمْصِيُّ، ثنا سَلامَةُ بْنُ جَوَّاسٍ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ الطَّائِيُّ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بُسْرٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، كَمِ الْقَرْنُ؟ قَالَ: مِائَةُ سَنَةٍ.

١٦٩٣٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ، ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ زُرَارَةَ بْنِ أَوْفَى قَالَ: الْقَرْنُ: عِشْرُونَ وَمِائَةُ سَنَةٍ.
١٦٩٣٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو الْجُمَاهِرِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ بَشِيرٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: الْقَرْنُ سَبْعُونَ سَنَةً.
١٦٩٣٨ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو بِشْرٍ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ، ثنا أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ النَّاجِيُّ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: الْقَرْنُ: سِتُّونَ سَنَةً.
١٦٩٤٠ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الأَشَجُّ، ثنا حَفْصٌ، عَنْ الْحَجَّاجِ، عَنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ: الْقَرْنُ أَرْبَعُونَ سَنَةً.
١٦٩٤١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بن عقبة الرفاعي، ثنا مالك ابن دِينَارٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ الْحَسَنَ، عَنِ الْقَرْنِ، فَقَالَ: عشرون سنة.
