16954 - 'Ubayd ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Hamzah narrated to us, in what he wrote to me: Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah [regarding] His saying: "Have they not disbelieved in what was given to Musa before?" [meaning:] before Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was sent—and Islam.

His saying, Exalted is He: "They said: 'Two magicians supporting each other'"

[The first view]

16955 - Yunus ibn Habib narrated to us: Abu Dawud narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Hamzah, from Muslim ibn Yasar, he said: I asked Ibn 'Abbas about the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He: "Two magicians supporting each other." He said: "Musa and Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon them both." It was also narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri similarly.

And the second view:

16956 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr: They said: "Two magicians supporting each other," [meaning] Musa and Harun, peace be upon them both. It was also narrated from Abu Razin similarly.

16957 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us: Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: They said: "Two magicians supporting each other," [referring to] the statement of the Jews regarding Musa and Harun.

And the third view:

16958 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah [regarding] His saying: "Two magicians supporting each other," he said: That was the enemies of Allah, the Jews, [referring to] the Gospel and the Furqan (the Criterion/Quran). And whoever says: "Two magicians," he says: "Muhammad and 'Isa, peace and blessings be upon them both."

[And whoever recited: Two magicians]

16959 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "Two magicians supporting each other," he says: "The Torah and the Furqan." It was narrated from 'Asim al-Jahdari, al-Suddi, and 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam similarly.
