The second interpretation:
17200 - Abu ‘Abd Allah al-Tihrani narrated to us, Hafs ibn ‘Umar narrated to us, al-Hakam ibn Aban narrated to us, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "to a place of return," he said: To the Day of Resurrection.
17201 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "to a place of return," [meaning:] He will resurrect you on the Day of Resurrection.
17202 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray‘ narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Indeed, [He] who ordained the Qur'an for you will return you to a place of return," he said: Al-Hasan used to say: Yes, by Allah, indeed he has a promised time when Allah will resurrect him on the Day of Resurrection, then He will enter him into Paradise.
The third interpretation:
17203 - My father narrated to us, al-Nufayli and ‘Abd Allah ibn Marwan—the Harranians—narrated to us, they said: Muhammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Khusayf, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "Indeed, [He] who ordained the Qur'an for you will return you to a place of return," he said: To your original home of Paradise. It was narrated from Abu Sa‘id al-Khudri, Abu Malik, and Mujahid in one of the narrations, similar to that.
The fourth interpretation:
17204 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi ‘Umar al-‘Adani narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Yunus ibn Abi Ishaq, from Mujahid regarding His saying: "to a place of return," he said: To your birthplace in Makkah. It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas, Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, ‘Atiyyah, and al-Dahhak similar to that.
17205 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi ‘Umar narrated to us, he said: Sufyan said: We heard it from Muqatil seventy years ago, from al-Dahhak, who said: When the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, left Makkah and reached al-Juhfah, he longed for Makkah, so Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, revealed to him the Qur'an: "Indeed, [He] who ordained the Qur'an for you will return you to a place of return," [meaning:] to Makkah.
The fifth interpretation:
17206 - My father narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn ‘Uthman narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Hariz narrated to us, from Nu‘aym al-Qari', who heard him say: "Indeed, [He] who ordained the Qur'an for you will return you to a place of return," he said: He will return you to Bayt al-Maqdis (Jerusalem).
