Mujalid, from al-Musli, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, from 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, that he said: While I was with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), a man came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, what is Ihsan (spiritual excellence)? He said: To worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you do not see Him, He sees you; and that you love for people what you love for yourself. If I do that, am I... He said: Yes. The man said: You have spoken the truth. The man [left], and the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: Bring the man back to me. So we brought him back. Then the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: Allah is the Greatest; Gabriel has come to teach you your religion.
17454 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from Abu Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Ihsan is the performance of the obligatory acts (Fara'id).
17455 - My father narrated to us: Sahl ibn 'Uthman narrated to us: A man—whom he named—narrated to us, from some of his companions, from Abu [so-and-so]... he said: Ihsan is maintaining family ties and prayer (Salah).
17456 - My father narrated to us: 'Isa ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Abu Ja'far al-Razi narrated to us, from al-Mughirah, from al-Sha'bi: The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: Ihsan is only that you show kindness to those who have mistreated you; Ihsan is not that you show kindness to those who have shown kindness to you.
End of the Tafsir of Surah al-'Ankabut. And praise be to Allah.
And there is no power nor strength except with Allah, and praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

مُجَالِدٍ، عَنِ الْمُسْلِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: بَيْنَا أَنَا، عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا الإِحْسَانِ قَالَ: أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ، وَتُحِبَّ لِلنَّاسِ مَا تُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِكَ. فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَنَا.. قَالَ: نَعَمْ.
قَالَ الرَّجُلُ: صَدَقْتَ الرَّجُلُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيَّ الرَّجُلَ فَعُدْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، جِبْرِيلُ أَتَى يُعَلِّمُكُمْ دِينَكُمْ.
١٧٤٥٤ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: الإِحْسَانُ: أَدَاءُ الْفَرَائِضِ.
١٧٤٥٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا رَجُلٌ سَمَّاهُ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِهِ، عَنْ أَبَا ... قَالَ: الإِحْسَانُ: الصِّلَةُ وَالصَّلاةُ.
١٧٤٥٦ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الرَّازِيُّ، عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّمَا الإِحْسَانُ إِنَّ تُحْسِنَ إِلَى مِنَ أَسَاءَ إِلَيْكَ، لَيْسَ الإِحْسَانُ أَنْ تحسن إلى من أحسن إليك.
