17515 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "Then He spreads it in the sky," he said: He gathers it and makes it pieces (kisaf), he said: Portions. (1)
His saying, the Exalted: "So indeed, you will not make the dead hear," the verse
17516 - From Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood at the pit of Badr and said: "Have you found what your Lord promised to be true?" Then he said: "They now hear what I say." This was mentioned to Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and she said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) only said: 'They now know that what I used to tell them is the truth.'" Then she recited: "So indeed, you will not make the dead hear," until she finished the verse. (2)
His saying, the Exalted: "Allah is the one who created you from weakness"
17517 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "Allah is the one who created you from weakness," he said: From a drop of fluid. "Then He made after weakness, strength," he said: Old age and gray hair. He said: The whiteness of hair (shamut). (3)
His saying, the Exalted: "And on the Day the Hour is established"
17518 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "And on the Day the Hour is established, the criminals will swear that they had not remained except for an hour," he said: They mean in the worldly life. The people will consider the duration of the worldly life insignificant when they behold the Hereafter. "Likewise they were deluded," he said: Likewise they used to lie in the worldly life. "And those who were given knowledge said," the verse. He said: This is from their refusal to speak. Its interpretation is: And those who were given faith and knowledge in the Book of Allah said: You have remained until the Day of Resurrection. (4)
His saying, the Exalted: "You have remained in the Book of Allah"
17519 - From al-Rabi' ibn Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: "You have remained in the Book of Allah to the Day of Resurrection," he said: They remained in the knowledge of Allah in the Barzakh until the Day of Resurrection. No one knows when the time of the Hour is except Allah, and regarding that, Allah revealed: "And a term determined by Him." (5)
