16072 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us: al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us: Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us: Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And that they say what they do not do, except for those who believe and do righteous deeds." He said: "This is the exception (thaniyah) of Allah from among the poets and others."

His saying the Almighty: "And remember Allah much."

16073 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And remember Allah much" in their speech.

16074 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from al-Walid ibn Kathir, from Yazid ibn 'Abd Allah, from Abu al-Hasan al-Barrad, the freed slave of Banu Nawfal, that Hassan ibn Thabit and 'Abd Allah ibn Rawahah came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when "And the poets, the straying ones follow them. Do you not see that they wander in every valley? And that they say what they do not do. Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds" was revealed. He said: "It is you. And remember Allah much." He said: "It is you."

His saying the Almighty: "Much."

16075 - My father narrated to us: Ibn Abi 'Umar narrated to us: Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, meaning His saying: "And remember Allah much." He said: "A servant cannot be among those who remember Allah much until he remembers Allah while standing, sitting, and lying down."

His saying the Almighty: "And defend themselves after they have been wronged."

16076 - My father narrated to us: Abu Salih narrated to us: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And defend themselves after they have been wronged," he said: "They respond to the disbelievers who used to lampoon the believers."

16077 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us by reading: Ibn Wahb informed us: Jarir ibn Hazim informed me, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Yazid ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Qusayt, from Abu al-Hasan al-Barrad, who said: When this verse was revealed: "And the poets, the straying ones follow them," he said: 'Abd Allah ibn Rawahah, Ka'b ibn Malik, and Hassan ibn Thabit came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, Allah has revealed this verse while He knows that we are poets, so we are ruined." He said: "Then Allah revealed: 'Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds.'" So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called them and recited to them: "Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds."
