His saying (Exalted is He): "knowledge"
16179 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "[to] David and Solomon [knowledge]," he said: Understanding.
16180 - 'Ubayd ibn Muhammad ibn Yahya ibn Hamzah informed us in what he wrote to me, Abu al-Jumahir narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to me, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And We certainly gave to David and Solomon knowledge," he said: David was given three things: the mountains were made subservient to him, moving along with him; iron was made soft for him; and he was taught the speech of the birds. [As for] Musa, the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him), he was taught the speech of the birds. The jinn were made subservient to him, and that was among what he inherited from him. The mountains were not made subservient to him, nor was iron made soft for him.
His saying (Exalted is He): "And they both said, 'Praise to Allah, who has favored us over many'" [the rest of the verse].
16182 - It was mentioned from Ibrahim ibn Hisham ibn Yahya, my father informed me, from my grandfather, he said: 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz wrote that Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He) did not bestow a favor upon a servant for which he praised Allah, except that his praise was better than the favor, were you not to know that except in the revealed Book of Allah. Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He) said: "And We certainly gave to David and Solomon knowledge, and they both said, 'Praise to Allah, who has favored us over many of His believing servants.'" And what favor is better than what David and Solomon were given?
His saying (Exalted is He): "And Solomon inherited David"
16183 - Ahmad ibn Yahya ibn Malik al-Susi narrated to us, 'Abd al-Wahhab ibn 'Ata narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And Solomon inherited David," he said: He inherited his prophethood and his kingdom.
16184 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwazi narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And Solomon inherited David," he said: He inherited his prophethood, his kingdom, and his knowledge.
16185 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas regarding His saying: "And Solomon inherited David," he said: He inherited from him that the devils and the winds were made subservient to him, in addition to what he inherited of what his father had been given.

قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: عِلْمًا
١٦١٧٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا صَفْوَانُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ، ثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: دَاودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ عِلْمًا قَالَ فَهْمًا.
١٦١٨٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ حَمْزَةَ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا أَبُو الْجُمَاهِرِ، حَدَّثَنِي سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا دَاودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ عِلْمًا كَانَ دَاودُ أُعْطِيَ ثَلاثًا، سُخِّرَتْ لَهُ الْجِبَالُ يُسِّرَتْ مَعَهُ، وَأُلِينَ لَهُ الْحَدِيدُ، وَعُلِّمَ مَنْطِقَ الطَّيْرِ، عُلِّمَ مُوسَى نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلامُ، مَنْطِقَ الطَّيْرِ، وَسُخِّرَتْ لَهُ الْجِنُّ وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ مِمَّا وَرِثَ عَنْهُ لَمْ تُسَخَّرْ لَهُ الْجِبَالُ، وَلَمْ يُلَنْ لَهُ الْحَدِيدُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَقَالا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى كَثِيرٍ الْآيَةَ
١٦١٨٢ - ذُكِرَ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ هِشَامِ «١» بْنِ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنِي، أَبِي، عَنْ جَدِّي قَالَ:
كَتَبَ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، لَمْ يَنْعَمْ عَلَى عَبْدٍ نِعْمَةً، فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ عَلَيْهَا إِلا كَانَ حَمْدُهُ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ لَوْ كُنْتَ لَا تَعْرِفُ ذَلِكَ إِلا فِي كتاب الله المنزل، قال الله جلا وَعَلا: وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا دَاودَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ عِلْمًا وَقَالا الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى كَثِيرٍ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَأَيُّ نِعْمَةٍ أَفْضَلُ مِمَّا أُوتَى دَاودُ وَسُلَيْمَانُ.
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى: وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَانُ دَاودَ
١٦١٨٣ - حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى بْنِ مَالِكٍ السُّوسِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَا، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَانُ دَاودَ وَرِثَ نُبُوَّتَهُ وَمُلْكَهُ.
١٦١٨٤ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ هَارُونَ الطُّوسِيُّ فِيمَا كَتَبَ إِلَيَّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثنا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَوْلُهُ: وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَانُ دَاودَ قَالَ: وَرَّثَهُ نُبُوَّتَهُ وَمُلْكَهُ، وَعِلْمَهُ.
١٦١٨٥ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: وَوَرِثَ سُلَيْمَانُ دَاودَ قَالَ: وَرِثَهُ أَنْ سُخِّرَ لَهُ الشَّيَاطِينُ وَالرِّيَاحُ إِلَى مِمَّا وَرِثَ مِمَّا أُعْطِيَ أبوه.
